SkyRise Chicago 2019

Steiner Stair Steppers

Our family will be participating in SkyRise 2019 to honor our Grandma, Marie Steiner, and Uncles Bill and Bob. SkyRise 2019 supports The Shirley Ryan Ability Lab (formerly RIC). The Shirley Ryan Ability Lab is the nation’s #1 ranked provider of comprehensive physical medicine and rehabilitation care to patients from around the world and is the leader in research and development of the most cutting-edge treatments and technologies in its field. SRA Lab specializes in spinal cord injuries that have helped the lives of numerous families, including ours.

Our Uncle Bill was just 26 years old when he was in a car accident and became paralyzed from the neck down. Even though his accident changed his life dramatically, his attitude was always positive and inspirational for others. Bill’s outlook on life was truly something to admire. His life didn't stop because of his accident, he made the best of his situation and was an excellent role model for our entire family as well as friends and fellow patients.

Throughout his life, Bill received amazing treatment and support from RIC. He had complete faith in the team at RIC and felt that they truly understood his injury. Our Grandma and Uncle Bob were Bill's primary caregivers, and spent countless hours with RIC staff learning how to best care for Bill and the complications that arose from his injury.

Over an 18 month period, we lost Marie, Bill and Bob. To honor them, we started a new tradition in 2014 to take part in SkyRise as a family to give back to the organization that was such an important part of our family. We our continuing the tradition for the 6th year by participating in SkyRise Chicago 2019 and will be climbing the 103 flights (2,109 stairs) to the top of the Willis Tower to raise funds for the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab.

Please help us support the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab of Chicago so they can continue to provide world-class care for patients and their families with spinal cord, traumatic brain and stroke injuries.
