Mary McCue #McCUESTRONG
As many of you know, last year on July 1, 2018, my dad suffered a major spinal cord injury affecting C3-T1 of his spine. As a tribute to him, I am participating in SkyRise Chicago this November. I'll be climbing 103 flights of stairs at the Willis Tower to raise funds for his acute inpatient rehab facility, the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab-- our family's home away from home last summer.
The AbilityLab provides world-class rehabilitation care to thousands of patients for traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, stroke and cancer recovery, and more. The funds raised through SkyRise Chicago will directly support advances in patient care and cutting-edge research.
SkyRise Chicago is truly a special event. It’s the only tower climb in the world to offer 2 modes of participation - by foot up the Willis Tower stairs and by hand-cycling the equivalent distance. These options give anyone, no matter their level of ability, the opportunity to participate. My dad will be climbing the stairs as well, and I am confident that this will be possible due to the tremendous progress we have seen as a result of his time at SRA Lab! Last year he was able to do this just 4 months after his injury, and we are excited for him to climb again!
I ask that you help me as I challenge myself physically and mentally to complete the climb and support the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, a non-profit hospital. Your donation will help the research hospital continue to provide patients with world-class care for the brightest possible future. And the SRA Lab will be able to continue to thrive and offer hope to people during what often feels like a hopeless time.
I cannot say enough good things about SRA Lab, and I look forward to doing what I can to give back to the place that has given so much to my dad and our family. Last year, he came into the facility on a stretcher in July, and was able to walk out those doors a month later because of their incredible care. Please support them in providing patients with the best care that sets them up to reach their fullest potential.
If you are interested in joining our team on Sunday, November 3rd in Chicago for the climb, reach out to me for details!
